Gerry was called out to a property in Knowle Lane, near Cranleigh, where there was very little flow through the drains. On investigation, he found quite a lot of congealed fat in the drainage system, which needed high-pressure water jetting to clear and clean the pipework properly.
But it quickly became clear that the blocked drain wasn’t the whole problem. There was also an issue with the septic tank, so he called in one of our ASL tankers. Using the tanker’s powerful suction together with high-pressure jetting, we emptied the septic tank and cleaned the drainage system thoroughly. We then used CCTV to investigate further and establish what was happening with the existing system.
The important part for us is not just getting everything flowing again. We want the customer to understand what we have found and what their options are. Two days later, our office sent over a full report of our findings, together with estimates, likely costs and an indication of how long the work would take.
One of the options was to replace the existing septic tank system with a modern treatment plant. A treatment plant treats the wastewater before discharge, and, subject to the necessary permissions and consent, it may be possible to continue using the existing discharge point. The immediate problem was dealt with, and the customer was then fully informed and able to make an informed decision about the longer-term solution.
