Drainage Specialists Serving New Malden and Surrounding Areas

ASL covers New Malden and the surrounding areas, including Motspur Park, Old Malden, Coombe and Cambridge Estate. New Malden’s residential streets are largely interwar semis and terraces, with a busy high street known for its concentration of Korean restaurants and businesses sitting at the centre of it all. Every job is carried out by ASL’s own directly employed engineers, using ASL’s own equipment.

Drainage Specialists Serving New Malden and Surrounding Areas

What We Can Clear for You in New Malden

Toilets, sinks, kitchen waste, outside drains, gullies and inspection chambers across New Malden's residential streets. The interwar semis that make up much of the area sometimes show poor original installation, including incorrect pipe falls or badly positioned inspection chambers, alongside the more typical wear that comes with age. Soakaways, main drain connections and CCTV drain surveys are part of the regular workload, along with drainage for the restaurants and commercial premises along the high street, where high kitchen usage brings its own drainage demands.

Toilets

Backing up because of an outside drain blockage, not internal plumbing.

Ground-floor sinks

Draining slowly or overflowing due to blocked external pipes.

Manholes & chambers

Inspection chambers in the garden or driveway that have surcharged.

Downpipes & gullies

Rainwater downpipes and gully outlets that won't clear.

Soakaways

Systems that aren't draining water away as they should.

Commercial drainage

Foul and surface water systems for businesses of any size.

Why Do Drains Get Blocked?

New Malden sits on London Clay, ground that holds water and can put pressure on surface water drainage during sustained rain. On the area’s interwar estates, ASL regularly finds installation faults dating back to when the streets were first built, alongside more usual issues like root ingress from mature street trees. Fat and grease build-up in kitchens is a particularly common cause here, given how much of the high street’s economy is built around catering, and wet wipes flushed away remain a frequent domestic issue throughout the surrounding streets.

Kitchen habits

Fat, grease and food waste hardening inside the pipe.

Bathroom items

Wet wipes and sanitary products, even 'flushable' ones.

Nature

Tree roots, silt and leaves finding their way in.

Wear & tear

Scale build-up, cracks or old pipe materials failing.

Build issues

Renovation debris or pipes laid at the wrong gradient.

How We Fix It, Our 5-Step Process

  1. Call and rapid response Describe the problem, and an engineer is dispatched to your New Malden address, usually the same day.
  2. On-site diagnosis The blockage is assessed, with a CCTV drain survey used where the cause isn't immediately obvious.
  3. Clearing the blockage High-pressure jetting, rodding or mechanical drain milling, chosen to suit the pipe and problem found.
  4. Confirming the fix Flowing freely, evidence shown. Where it's appropriate, the engineer then spends ten minutes running a camera down the pipe for a complimentary look-see. There's nothing to pay for it, as it comes with clearing the drain, and the point is to confirm the pipe is genuinely clear and to catch anything obviously wrong. On a fat-related blockage that quick look is often worth having. It is not a full CCTV drainage survey, which is a longer job with different equipment and a written report.
  5. Reporting and next steps Where no-dig lining or a patch repair is needed, ASL explains the findings and provides a free estimate.
Recent Drainage Work in New Malden

Case in Point: Esher, near New Malden

Recent Drainage Work in New Malden

Gerry attended a job in Esher, near New Malden, to investigate the surface water drainage and locate the public surface water sewer. With heavy clay ground that doesn’t drain well, a soakaway wasn’t a reliable answer, so a proper drainage plan mattered. It’s a good example of why we look at the ground and the existing drainage before recommending work. Read the full job on our New Malden case study page.

Having found ASL Limited on multiple recommendation sites I can see why - they have been a pleasure to deal with from start to finish! To assist with investigative works we had Mark and Alex out initially and then Ryan and Max out for further work - both teams were an absolute pleasure to have at our house: polite, punctual and most importantly they were experts in their field. ASL rightly have an excellent reputation as I would not go anywhere else if I need any future help!

What a great service! Booked in when I needed it, turned up exactly on time, investigated and sorted the problem and I now have free flowing drains! Then, to cap it all, they wouldn't take my money and said 'we'll invoice you later'. Now that's how to inspire trust! Would I use ASL again? I'm hoping I won't need to but I'll be recommending them everywhere I can!

An outstanding company. Professional, responsive, honest and knowledgeable. A private treatment plant that continually malfunctioned (electrics installed inside the tank. What genius thought that was a good idea?!) has been completely upgraded by ASL. Trenches dug, bespoke risers made on site, new electrics installed, the lot - all done with care and expertise. I cannot recommend them enough. Every single one of their staff are a credit to them.

FAQs

Can I get an engineer out the same day in New Malden?

Usually, yes, and clearing the blockage typically takes under 30 minutes once they've arrived.

What's the cost likely to be?

Depends on the blockage type and equipment required. We always offer a free, no-obligation quote before any work, and there's no charge for getting in touch in the first place.

Who's responsible for the drain, me or Thames Water?

Thames Water covers the public sewer in New Malden. But pipework within your own boundary is your responsibility.

Do restaurants on the high street need different drainage support?

Often, yes. Commercial kitchens see far higher fat and grease loads than a household, and ASL works with several businesses along the high street on exactly that basis.

What does a CCTV drain survey show?

Precisely what's causing a blockage inside the pipe, whether that's a domestic run or a commercial kitchen drain. That's a booked survey, done with the right camera equipment and written up properly. It's separate from the complimentary 10-minute look-see we include after clearing a blockage, which is a quick confirmation rather than a full inspection.

Will you need to dig up my garden?

Often not, no-dig lining or patch repair can do the job instead, depending on the survey.
