Cesspits / cesspools can vary in different shapes and sizes and are installed entirely underground. Newer cesspools consist of a fibreglass holding tank with an inlet and older tanks are usually of brick construction.
Although it is your legal right to install a cesspool, we wouldn’t usually advise it as an option and should only be considered as a last resort or when a ‘Consent to discharge’ is refused or not possible. A cesspool is designed for containment only and requires emptying regularly and can vary depending on its usage. If you currently have a cesspit / cesspool installed, ASL can regularly visit your premises to empty the tank and ensure that everything is in good working order.
Furthermore, in the future if you decide to sell your property, a cesspit system, in our professional opinion, can de-value a property by as much as £20,000 as it is the least favourable sewage system to have. If you are installing a new waste management system a septic tank or treatment plant may be a more suitable option. Unsure which waste management system to go for? Cesspits and your waste management
Although installing a cesspit is still a viable option, we would normally advise against it, as there are other options that are easier to install and maintain. They are entirely underground and vary in shape and size.
A cesspit can also devalue your property in the future. Interested in finding out more about our other waste management options? Give our team of specialists a call today.
