Darren was allocated a blocked drain in Putney as his first job of the day, followed by another in Wimbledon. Because he lives closer to that side of London, it made far more sense than sending an engineer out from Guildford. Both customers were seen earlier, travelling time was reduced, and once the work was completed Darren either continued with nearby jobs or returned to the Guildford yard if required. It is a simple example of how ASL uses the location of both its engineers and its head office to provide a quicker, more efficient service.
The Wimbledon job wasn’t a straightforward blocked drain. The builder wanted Darren to carry out a CCTV survey and trace the drainage system to make sure the newly installed drainage had been connected correctly, in particular to confirm whether the surface water drainage had been connected as intended.
Darren carried out a CCTV survey and traced the pipework through the system, with the aim of establishing whether the drains were discharging to the correct destination and whether there was any cross-connection or construction issue. It was more of a diagnostic investigation than an emergency unblock, helping the builder verify the work before any further building work continued.
