How We Do It: The Process
Replacing a cover isn’t just about dropping a new lid on. Usually, the frame or the brickwork underneath is the real problem.
1. The Inspection – We check the size of the hole and the condition of the ground. We also check the “load rating” to ensure the new cover is strong enough for the location (e.g., driveway vs. flowerbed).
2. Removal & Repair – We remove the old cover and frame. Crucially, we check the brickwork (chamber) underneath. If the bricks are crumbling or the concrete has failed, we repair this first. A new cover on a broken base will just wobble again in a month.
3. Installation – We bed the new frame onto fresh concrete or mortar, ensuring it is perfectly level with the ground so it doesn’t create a trip hazard.
4. The Finishing Touches – We tidy up the area around the frame. Whether your surface is tarmac, concrete, paving slabs, or gravel, we reinstate it so the job looks neat and professional.
