Drain Lining
Fixing Pipes Without the Digging
The thought of repairing a damaged drain usually brings up images of excavators tearing up your driveway or trenches running through your flowerbeds.
Fortunately, modern technology has changed the game. Drain Lining is a clever way to repair cracked or damaged pipes from the inside, without the need for messy excavation.
In simple terms: We install a brand-new, waterproof pipe inside your old, damaged one. It seals cracks, covers holes, and smooths over joints—all without lifting a single paving slab.

When Is Lining the Right Choice?
Lining is the perfect solution when a pipe is damaged but hasn’t completely collapsed. We often recommend it to fix:
- Cracked Pipes: Fractures caused by ground movement or age.
- Leaking Joints: Gaps between pipes that let water out (causing damp) or let groundwater in.
- Tree Roots: Roots love drains. Lining seals the pipe so roots can’t grow back in.
- Pitch Fibre Pipes: Strengthening old pipes that have started to blister or deform.
- Persistent Blockages: Covering rough surfaces that keep catching toilet paper or debris.
Note: We can line a whole section of pipe (Full-Length Lining) or just repair a specific small area (Patch Lining).

How It Works: The No-Dig Process
It might sound like magic, but it is actually precise engineering. Here is how we do it:
1. The Camera Check – We always start with a CCTV survey. We need to see exactly where the damage is and check that the pipe is still round enough to take a liner. (If a pipe has totally collapsed, lining won’t work, and we will be honest about that).
2. The Deep Clean – We use high-pressure jets or mechanical tools to strip away scale, roots, and silt. The pipe needs to be perfectly clean so the new liner bonds correctly to the wall.
3. Installing the Liner – We take a flexible liner sleeve made of a felt-like material and soak it in a special resin. We then insert this into your drain and inflate it using an inner tube and air or water pressure, positioning it exactly over the damaged area. We inflate the liner so it presses tight against the walls of the old pipe.
4. Curing (Hardening) – We leave it to “cure” (harden). Once it sets, it becomes a rock-hard, structural pipe.
5. The Final Look – We send the camera down one last time to show you the result: a smooth, seamless new pipe that is ready to flow freely.
Can Every Pipe Be Lined?
ASL prioritises honest advice. While we love no-dig technology, it isn’t suitable for everything.
- We CAN line: Cracks, leaks, root intrusion, and open joints.
- We CANNOT line: A pipe that has fully collapsed or is crushed flat.
If your pipe is too far gone, we will tell you straight away and recommend excavation instead. However, if we can save it with a liner, we always will—it is faster, cleaner, and usually cheaper for you.

The Benefits to You
- Save Your Surface: No need to dig up your new patio, expensive driveway, or well-kept lawn.
- Cost-Effective: It is usually cheaper than excavation because it takes less time and requires less labour.
- Permanent Repair: The resin liner is incredibly strong and durable, essentially giving you a new pipe with a long lifespan.
- Better Flow: The new liner is smooth, meaning waste flows away easily and blockages are less likely.
- Watertight: It seals the pipe completely, stopping leaks that could lead to subsidence.
