One of Darren’s morning jobs took him to a property in the Horsham area after the customer complained about a very smelly drainage system. When Darren arrived, he quickly carried out his usual checks and established that rainwater was entering the private sewage system. That is a common cause of bad smells, particularly during or after heavy rain, because the extra water can upset how the system is designed to work.

Rather than just treating the symptoms, Darren explained exactly what he had found and talked the customer through the options. As a temporary measure, he suggested having the tank emptied and simply turning the roof downpipe away from the system so the rainwater discharged onto the patio instead. That would reduce the amount of clean rainwater entering the tank until a permanent solution could be arranged.

With the cause identified, Darren left for his next job, knowing the customer understood the problem and could make an informed decision. As with all of ASL’s visits, the recommendations were also recorded and sent out with the invoice, so nothing is forgotten and the customer has everything in writing.
