September is here and soon to be gone; the leaves will come down larger than flakes of snow, and when they are dry, they will be crushed by traffic and people walking on them. Inevitably that will fill our road gullies easier and quicker with Autumn debris.
I hear the estate owners say, “But we only had the road gullies emptied two months ago!”
Well, the leaves, the rain and storms don’t care.
Those gullies may need to be emptied to function correctly, carry away the stormwater, and save property and our roads. It could be our car parked alongside the road being splashed by dirty water or even us as we walk the pavements.

It is prudent to have the gullies cleaned during the winter months, especially in the autumn, because they are full of mulch and dirt. The pipes between the gullies collect the spoil, soil and mulch, partially blocking the drain pipes and eventually blocking the drains completely.
I am trying to convey that removing the mulch from within the drain pipes is more difficult and costly than removing it from the gullies. Once it's washed into the pipes, it is no longer possible to access it easily. I believe the most efficient way to prevent the expensive cleaning and repair of the drain pipes is simply by keeping the road gullies clean – if you see my point.
The gullies lead to the drains, and when they get blocked, they back up and cause a whole collection of problems. Flooding, surface water pooling, and sewage overflow to name a few.
