What is surface water ingress?

Surface water ingress is the penetration of surface water into a system that it should not be entering. Rainwater or roof water entering a sewage system via cracked or damaged pipes, ill-fitted or damaged inspection chambers or intentionally plumbed methods can create all kinds of problems.
Some of the problems caused by surface water ingress are:
- Pollution of our rivers and watercourses;
- Damage to private sewage systems and their drainage fields;
- Flooding through overwhelmed systems;
- Subsidence of undermined foundations;
These are not minor problems to encounter and they are certainly not cheap to rectify either.
