What is surface water ingress?

| Gerry Rowe

ASL Limited work with a number of commercial client's drainage.

Surface water ingress is the penetration of surface water into a system that it should not be entering. Rainwater or roof water entering a sewage system via cracked or damaged pipes, ill-fitted or damaged inspection chambers or intentionally plumbed methods can create all kinds of problems.

Some of the problems caused by surface water ingress are:

  • Pollution of our rivers and watercourses;
  • Damage to private sewage systems and their drainage fields;
  • Flooding through overwhelmed systems;
  • Subsidence of undermined foundations;

These are not minor problems to encounter and they are certainly not cheap to rectify either.
