Building and installing a strong waterproof sewage pumping chamber.

We supply and install concrete rings with talk strip joints (strips of tar) between every joint.
Benefits of concrete rings:
- Not prone to fatigue. [See our blog on fatigue]
- Not prone to movement.
- No need for a concrete surround.
We also install concrete sections for smaller pumping stations or inspection chambers on wet ground.
It's important to ensure that surface water is not draining into your private sewage system via gaps in the inspection chamber surround or cracks in the chamber walls.
Specially designed waterproof lids can prevent rain water ingress, even when the manhole lid is flush with ground level.
This concrete chamber (below) hasn’t been sealed on the last ring, it’s allowing the influx of surface water or rainwater because there is no proper sealed cover and frame.
The photos below are examples of specially designed sealed bolted down waterproof lid/cover and frame.

Allowing surface water or rainwater into your sewage pumping stations will use a lot more electricity, and the pump will be less reliable and possibly be problematic.
Be wary of some double-sealed covers as they can be quite fiddly. A great deal of care and patience is required when fitting this very thin rubbery band which is crucial in avoiding surface water into this chamber.
If you look closely, you’ll see the small ridge where the rubber band has not been replaced exactly into the shaped ridge around the top of where the screw fixes the lid.
If you think surface water might be getting into your private sewage system, we can help you identify where it is getting in and how and provide the solution. Call us today on 0800 181 684
