Getting started
Once you decide that a main sewer connection is the right choice, we’ll first obtain plans from your local water authority to confirm feasibility. We’ll conduct a site visit to check if there’s enough gradient for waste to flow freely from your property to the main sewer. If the margins are tight, we’ll carry out a site level survey to take precise measurements.
If the gradient is sufficient, we’ll excavate within your property boundary and construct a demarcation inspection chamber (manhole) to receive waste from your property. The excavation will continue toward the public highway, connecting to the main sewer via a new branch, spur, or chamber. New pipework is then laid, and the system is tested and inspected by the local water authority for approval.
If there isn’t enough fall to the nearest main sewer, we’ll install a pump system to efficiently move waste from your property to the main sewer.
Licensing and consent
To connect to a main sewer, you’ll need consent from your water company for the main sewer connection. ASL Limited can manage this application on your behalf if needed. You’ll also need to inform your water company of the new connection so they can update their billing for sewage services.
Since excavation may involve part of the public highway, we’ll also obtain a Street Works Licence from the local council under the New Roads and Street Works Act, 1991. We’ll ensure all necessary “Chapter 8” traffic signs and barriers are set up to manage traffic safely. All work will be conducted by our NRSW-certified staff, fully trained to work on public highways.
